When the second page doesn%u2019t immediately continue after the first, it is denoted with %u201ccontinued on p. X.%u201dJump OverWhen elements of a printed piece (such as text or images) are moved from one page to the next, creating an overlap. The reader%u2019s eyes are drawn across the pages and down to the content to continue reading through the copy.Justified TextText that is aligned along both margins, creating a straight line at each side of the text block. It is often used for body copy in books and magazines, as it creates an even look throughout the page.JustificationThe process of adjusting the spacing between words and letters in a line of text to make it appear even on both sides.KKerningThe process of adjusting the spacing between individual characters in a line of text, usually to create a more even and aesthetically pleasing look.KeylineA thin line or border that surrounds an image, usually used to denote what portion of the page will be printed. It is often used as a guide for trimming and finishing the piece.KickerA short phrase or caption that is inserted into a block of text to draw attention to a particular point. It is commonly used in headlines and advertising copy.KnockoutThe process of removing an image from its background, leaving only the image on the page. This is often done in digital printing for two-colour jobs and dark backgrounds.Knockout TextText that is printed over a background colour or image, in which the text itself has been %u201cknocked out%u201d of the background, leaving an imprint on the page.Kraft PaperStrong paper used for wrapping and envelopes.LL.W.CLightweight Coated grades have a low basis weight and are used for printing magazines and brochures.Label PrintingThe process of printing labels, such as those found on packages or bottles, usually done using a digital or offset press or thermal transfer printer.Laid PaperLaid finish papers feature a subtle pattern called %u201claid lines%u201d which are created by a dandy roll with wire running parallel to its axis. These wires are attached by chain wires, which often leave %u2018chain lines%u2019 at right angles to the laid lines.68
